The Ionian Islands

Located on the western side of Greece, the islands of the Ionian Sea are famous for their gorgeous beaches and the lush greenery. Corfu, Kefalonia, Zakynthos and Lefkada are the most popular with many activities available ashore, while there are also a few other secluded islands with very good anchorages for swimming.

Famous as the legendary birthplace of Ulysses, Ithaca island is a paradisal island ideal for total relaxation. It has amazing lush greenery, gemlike villages and beaches with blue green waters. Kioni and Vathy are the most picturesque villages, while there are wonderful beaches to swim from at Filiatro, Sarakiniko and Agios

Paxi is a wonderful island in the Ionian Sea, geographically located south of Corfu, famous for the exotic beaches in the close, uninhabited island of Antipaxos. Paxi has three small seaside villages where many private yachts and fishing boats moor in summer.

Famous all over the world for the amazing beaches, Lefkada island is a fabulous place to visit for summer vacations. This island of the Ionian Sea, geographically located west of the Greek mainland, has the most fantastic sea colour. Beaches, like Porto Katsiki, Kathisma and Egremni, are among the most photographed in the Mediterranean.

Meganisi is a small island with lush greenery and turquoise waters. It is located just about opposite the port of Nydri in Lefkada. Vathy and Spartohori are the main villages and beautiful coves for anchorage can be found all around the island.

One of the most cosmopolitan islands of Greece, Corfu is located on the northern side of the Ionian Sea. Visitors are charmed by the Venetian style, the lovely beaches and the relaxing feeling. The style of Corfu Town at first sight reminds tourists very much of Italian towns, like Venice and Florence. Many beautiful beaches can be found around the island, amongst them Paleokastritsa, Agios Gordis and Nissaki. Also it’s worth visiting the Achilleon Palace, in Gastouri, a small palace built in 19th century for the Empress Elizabeth “Sissy” of Austria.

Famous for the exotic beaches and the picturesque seaside villages, Cephalonia is an island ideal for family or romantic holidays. Due to its large size, tourism is spread around so the island has retained its quiet, laid back style even in high season. Fiscardo, Myrtos, Antisamos, and Assos are among the most beautiful places to visit on the island. Do not miss a visit to Melissani and Drogarati caves, two of the most beautiful sites of the island!

World famous for the amazing beaches with crystal clear waters, Zakynthos island is fabulous for summer holidays. The most impressive beach is Navagio (the Shipwreck Beach), accessible only by boat, a close second a visit to the ‘blue caves’! Zakynthos Town is the main town on the island, with interesting museums and a Venetian Castle on top of the hill. Many small villages, as well as old monasteries dot the mountainous countryside.
